1. It irks me when people use copy protected material that they don't
have the legal right to use. For example many vlogs use sound from
famous musicians who have not authorzied putting their stuff on the
public domain. Or lots of vlogs will use video clips from big
hollywood films to which they do not have the legal right. I only use
stuff that's authorized under common lisc. AND/OR stuff that I have
purchased via stock outlets.

I've said most of what I had to say about this already, so won't repeat myself.

I would like to see artists compensated, but I would hate to see a situation so stifling (which, if we all played strictly by the rules, we have now) that many brilliant mashups (both audio and video) would never be made. I hate to see the law get in the way of good non-profit fun!

I own a virtual agency and I have to negotiate with every artist
regarding usage rights. These folks work hard to produce their work
and I don't feel that it is right to take it without authorization.

I am interested in this point - how difficult is it to negotiate such rights? Are there standard forms? What kinds of fees are typical, if there is such a thing as typical in this field?  Is there a clearinghouse where I could go and say "I want to use Song X for my videoblog, which has an average monthly circulation of n, which is distributed by so-and-so means... How much will that cost me?" - and get a quick answer?

I would expect such a service to include considerations such as the difference between using a song in its entirety with no other sound (so that there could be abuses such as people stripping out the soundtrack to put on their iPod without further payment), vs using only some proportion of a song, or using it as background music with other sound so that a clean recording could not be easily stripped out of the video.

2. Shaky video - ala 'the blair witch project'

This depends on so many factors. We all try to avoid it, but I don't carry a steadycam harness or even a tripod in my purse all the time.

My pet peeves? Don't think I have any. Anything that doesn't catch and keep my attention (very little - I just don't have time!), I don't watch. I don't bother to get peeved about it.
