Hi all, I want to take this opportunity to introduce my new project `Footprints in the Snow'. Footprints in the Snow is going to be a videoblog and finally a half an hour-ish documentary looking at how to travel without flying. It's mainly aimed at the staff and students of Sussex University (this is because I am getting a lot of funding from them) Though it's aimed at these people, my aim is to give it a much wider audience.
The project has got three main aims: To provide resources I would like people to feel confident that they have the resources they need to choose not to fly as often as possible. For example, the documentary could provide the addresses of invaluable online resources such as The Man in Seat 61 (http://www.seat61.com/). To inform Footprints in the Snow should provide clear reasons for choosing not to fly, or choosing `slow-travel'. To this end it will feature interviews with environmental organisations, slow-travel connoisseurs and staff and students who have chosen not to fly. Real facts about how flying damages the environment should be given. To provide examples Myself and a friend are going to travel to Sweden via train and boat as a demonstration of slow-travel. While we are there, we will visit some areas of outstanding natural beauty and some green initiatives. You can get loads more information at the project wiki: http://footprintsinthesnow.pbwiki.com and follow the action on the videoblog: http://ftprintsinthesnow.blogspot.com. I wanted to bring it to the attention of the list, because if I talk about it then it makes it real and it is less likely to crash and burn. At the moment, this project is just me, and it's starting to become obvious that there is no way on earth I can do it on my own. I need some help. The biggest help that I need is someone with experience to act as a overseer or producer. This is going to be a videoblog, but also a documentary. I don't want the production values for either to turn out to be a pile of crap. So, I need help with editing, distribution, a whole bunch of other things (please see wiki). I still have to find almost £1000 (I don't know what that is in $) funding. I will probably get another couple of hundred from the University, and then hit local ethical business for some more money. I'll also install a donate button on the blog. I need help with other ideas for funding. Well that's it in a nutshell, I hope that there's people out there with ideas who can help me. Thanks. Beth Tilston XXX
