A key part of the thought process is - people aren't buying camcorders with 1394 connections (yes this is a generalization). If you look at the best seller list for camcorders on Amazon, which admittedly skews through the inclusion of several versions of the Flip, almost none of them use 1394 because they are HDD or flash media camcorders.
