MaemoMapper¹ allows to enter "arbitrary" map sources. So if you find another tileserver which fits your needs better than any other, you just can enter its tile URL with some variables in place: http://opentiles.com/nop/tiles/%0d/%0d/%d.png I wonder if such a feature was of interest for Viking as well. At least it allows to use any OSM compatible maps to be configured. I also remember that I once have fixed the OSM URL in the code, as the tile server had moved. If it was configurable, the necessity to touch the code would have been gone.
