Precisely. So if you think being "conservative" with what data is being collected is a good thing, then you do that. (Others might do s/conservative/paranoid/ to describe the situation at hand). So my comment still stands: what about the rest of us? In 20 years of experience contributing to open source software, I have **never** heard of a single person saying "please don't record my real name". Those hypothetical users--which are very likely less than 1 in 10,000 (if they exist at all)--can simply configure git with a pseudonym.
