Perhaps the answer should be in an FAQ which is periodically posted to
the list?

A very brief FAQ could include:

1. Info about maintaining your subscription, including unsubscribing.

2. Links to the Vim FAQ, the Vim Tips wiki, and other useful info.

3. Links to the list archives

4. A short paragraph describing how to use Vim's built-in help system.

5. Some brief pointers about list etiquette. (Include a meaningful
subject line, don't top-post, trim your quotes, etc.)

The question of an FAQ has come up on this list before, but the focus in
that discussion was on questions about Vim itself rather than the list.
As Bram pointed out, the Vim FAQ and Tips wiki already serve the purpose
of collecting answers to frequent questions about Vim. That's where the
discussion ended, as far as I can tell.

I agree that there's no need to bloat people's inboxes by reproducing
the Vim FAQ (or the wiki) in a periodic posting. That's why I'm
suggesting we simply provide the links to that material.
