I found the culprit. When Maxim Kim responded to me in the vimwiki google group he commented, "There is something wrong with your set of plugins I believe." That triggered recollection of something I did yesterday that does relate to this. I have Vimorganizer installed. I stopped using it because it insists on putting newlines in the middle of paragraphs. Recently, after commenting out the setup for vo in my .vimrc, another plugin, taskpaper-vim, started exhibiting that behavior of joining the line below. I don't remember how I discovered that commenting out the code for vo caused that, but Maxim's comment brought the fact that it had to mind. I commented out the vo setup code again and restarted vim. Still had the problem. Uninstalled vo. I no longer have the problem. Anyway, thanks for your help, Tim.
