To turn it off:
set nolist
Note that the 'linebreak' option doesn't work when list is set.
linebreak is what let's vim soft wrap long lines at word breaks instead
of just chopping words in two. Presumably if you are using soft wrap
and have long single line paragraphs, you probably want wrapping to
occur at word breaks. list will get in the way of that. For more, try
'help linebreak'.
