"EtherTalk" is is MacIP over Ethernet, ie. IP over AppleTalk over Ethernet. "Ethernet" is IP over Ethernet, ie. conventional IP networking. It shouldn't change your IP address like that. Make sure your mask is set to 255.0.0.0. Make it a hub, many 10BaseT Ethernet cards of that vintage had trouble connecting to auto speed sensing ports.
