The Turbo 601 fits in the PDS. It came in two versions, 66Mhz and 100Mhz. The 100Mhz Turbo 601 is the "Holy Grail" of IIci accelerators and the price premium it usually brings over the 66Mhz version reflects that. ;) The only NuBus accelerators I know of are the Radius Rocket and Radius Rocket Stage Two. They run a full 68040 CPU and have their own seperate onboard RAM. They can run either as a CPU upgrade or as a seperate Mac inside your Mac. The Stage Two is the better version, it uses less power. Someone on the list here couldn't get two of the older Rockets to work nicely in his IIci. The theory is that a pair or maybe even three of the Stage II version might work OK in a IIci. So far I haven't heard of anyone trying it. The main limitation on the Rockets is they cannot run a System higher than 7.1, and the host is usually limited to 7.1 also. (I forget what the exception is on the host's OS!) The Turbo 601 requires a minimum of System 7.5 and that uses an enabler. Mac OS 7.6.x does not need an enabler for the installed System but the PPC boot floppy does. Mac OS 8.1 does not need an enabler at all for the Turbo 601. Anything higher must be hacked to make it install and run. So far the latest I've heard of on one is 8.6. Haven't heard of any success with 9.1, but the only reason to even try is just to show it can be done. :) 9.1 is OK on a 110Mhz 601 PowerMac but on a 100Mhz Power IIci with its 25Mhz bus speed would be torture that not even an Al Queda terrorist should be subjected to. ;-) <duck-n-run!> ===== http://www.junkscience.com "All the Junk that's fit to Debunk!" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
