If you install Macsbug, the system monitor and debugger, you can root around the system and watch all your applications run. Unless you are developing software, then the only real use for macsbug is to quit a program that is not responding. This won't always work, but if it has entered an infinite loop, it works pretty well. You can download macsbug from the apple site.
