In my experience the only sure way to clear the PRAM in any Mac is to
pull all power and the battery and leave it overnight to slowly
forget the world. PRAM Zaps are programmed on some Macs, the 840av
being a golden example, to only clear certain areas. I zapped the
PRAM on my 840av 7 times the other night while I was fighting my
Spigot PowerAV and it still managed to remember the date and time to
the nearest minute.

32MB Minimum. Any less and you are looking at lack of free RAM, OS
7.6.1 takes up at least 6MB of RAM and maybe ore if you have a lot of
extensions and CPs loaded. With 32MB you at least have 24MB free
which is enough to run almost any 68k App in.

Bear in mind that if you use a small amount of RAM with a later
operating system you will need virtual memory and VM swapping really
kills most 68k Macs, even the 840av. I turn it off by force of habit
on 68ks to stop it slowing the machine down. The only way you might
be able to fluke it is if you use RamDoubler but even that has to
shift stuff out of RAM, it just does it better than Mac OS.
