I just got an LC III+ and I'm planning on setting it up as a computer
to use at my home for basic internet browsing and email when I'm not at
my dorm. Right now it's working, with OS 7.6.1 and an ethernet card (my
home has IDSL internet so it comes through our LAN). However, on the 33
MHz 68030 processor, OS 7.6.1 seems quite sluggish. It's perfectly
usable, but it would be nice if it was faster. I would like to put 7.1
on it, but I am afraid I won't be able to connect it to the internet
using 7.1 because 7.1 doesn't have TCP/IP, it has MacTCP. TCP/IP is
what manages every other computer's network connection.

Anyway, I'd like to set it up, and I'd really appreciate any
suggestions people would be willing to give me. I am not putting 7.5.5
on it because it's probably not much faster than 7.6.1, and it's a
downgrade in other respects as well.

So I have two options, really. Find a way to connect to the network in
7.1 (either by hacking TCP/IP onto it or by getting MacTCP to work with
my network), or find a way to speed up 7.6.1. The person who sold me
this computer (Jim Lunceford) also said I should ask for Jeff Garrison
to contact me off-list. So, Jeff, if you're out there, please send me a
message and maybe you can help. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
