-- More expensive than RRs... I don't know if anyone is interested in more info about what Marten mentioned about vintage macs printing hi res files thru RIP's. I was part of that commercial environment and had some years of experience with that type of "skittery" system. We started buying that kind of equipment when the SE/30 came out (if I remember correctly) and graduated to the IIci. We had 2 $75,000 B/W scanners with their RIPs. If you put pages together in Quark Xpress with Ilustrator or Photoshop images you had to be very careful about using too much rotated art or placing improperly trimmed images. The RIPs didn't like to process all that info and often would not. We sometimes ripped documents for other Ad Agencies and some Publishing companies, who often used Pagemaker, which created a lot of problems for the RIPs. At that time we were outputting Black and White files. For color work we used a Scitex (owned by an outside service) which was down to $800,00 dollars from its original million dollar price tag. So the equipment was very expensive and extremely slow and didn't respect non expert users. It was very exciting to grow up in that world. In the mid nineties I had the experience of outputting very large color images from S900's to Windows NT RIPs, to 36" wide inkjet printers. Incredible speed and quality, for a fraction of the prior costs. So printing color from vintage Macs is possible but would be very very very slooooooow. dan_A -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
