A few refreshed memories:

The "Gold" Netscape was v3. The non-free 4.08 was called the Pro
version. 4.08 used the system Java runtime (MRJ), not a Netscape
version. It may be the case the the Pro 68K version actually uses Java;
the standard version didn't. It does include the calendar module that
(I believe) is missing from standard.

Your link to MRJ 2.0 does include both the PPC and 68K versions. This
is what I have on my Q840AV. The minimum processor is 68040 and system
7.6.1 (the required CFM-68K Runtime Enabler isn't supported on 7.6).
This appears to be the same version that's on the OS 8.5 CD. I think
it's the case that MRJ 2.1 is on the 8.6 install CD and its
documentation refers to a 68K version that never left Cupertino. That's
the version I was thinking of. MRJ 2.0 corresponds to Sun Java 1.1.3;
2.1 corresponds to 1.1.4 (I think).
