Hi everyone, I just got my hands on a IIcx, but am having problems with it - namely getting it to turn on. The keyboard power key never works, period. (even with known good keyboards)
If I hit the button on the back, the machine only powers on maybe one third or less of the time. Otherwise, one of two things happens; nothing or one to two clicks comes from somewhere in the vincinity of the power supply. I've noticed that the logic board looks suspiciouly wet in the vincinity of some of the electrolytic capacitorss which are mounted towards the front of said board. I know something's wrong there, but I thought that if leaky caps on the logic board were causing faults, the machine would power up but not boot - and that this would happen all of the time. Can anyone confirm if it is these capacitors which are causing the problem, or should I look elsewhere? Hopefully it's easily fixable as otherwise I'll probably end up cannabalizing the Mac since IIcx's are worth zero. Now, for the waaay off topic part. I know this is, like, 'fifth-removed', but hopefully no one will bite my head off. The only reason I'm tacking this bit on to the end of this post is because I desperately need an answer quickly, and the really low end Mac lists (Vintage, Compact etc.) seem to have more knowledgeable people in the field of actual hardware repair, than the average list (though I'm trying there too). The problem is with my Color Laserwriter 12/600 PS which I had shipped in from interstate. It seems to have been jolted in transit and doesn't want to work. When I turn it on, the power-on self test runs, and seems to complete. However, the Black Toner light then comes on (steady) and the Paper Out and Paper Jam lights start flashing (alternating). I've looked in the service manual, and the closest thing I can find to a problem which matches these symptoms is a loose, ill-fitted or otherwise troublesome toner carousel. However, when this happens, the Fuser Oil and/or Photocondutor Cartridge lights are also supposed to illumiate, which doesn't happen on my machine. Does anyone have even the slightest clue as to what might be causing this? Once again, sorry for the OT post. I'm only putting it here because I really need this thing to work, and I promise never to bring anything made after 1994 or so to this list again. Ever.
