First, I'd have to find replacements--not easy to do in >the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Hen's teeth are easier to find here. If it isn't worth it to you, then that's the end of it. But it really only takes a few minutes to replace thirteen capacitors. Maybe 20 seconds per SM and a bit longer for the axials because through-hole can be a bear to extract. You'll spend longer waiting for your soldering pencil to heat up. The caps are readily available from Digi-Key and probably others who don't have a minimum purchase (Digi-Key adds a $5 surcharge if your order is under $25) and I'm fairly certain that the US Postal Service reaches even to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. :-) The caps would probably set you back $3 - $4 plus shipping. If you can't make up a $25 order I could probably get them for you the next time I do a Digi-Key order and mail them to you for cost plus postage. >Besides, I hate the shotgun approach to >repair--replace-everything-and-it-just-might-fix-it--too many hours >spent in the days before chips, troubleshooting down to the component >level. Well, at the current age of those capacitors I don't really consider it a shotgun approach. They're all at least ten years old. Replacing ten year old electrolytic caps is rarely (ever?) a bad idea.
