what's the memory requirement for 8.1/8.5 installers?
My retail/non-specific 8.1 CD only mentions starting up w/ extensions off if you're installing on a PPC w/ 16 MB or less RAM.
Don't have an 8.5 CD ...

PowerMac 7100/80 won't install OS 8.1 or 8.5.
Is the CD a retail edition or did it come packaged w/ a Mac ?
Are you starting up from a floppy, a CD, an existing System folder on the HD, or other (Zip disk etc.) ??
Best to startup w/ the CD or a floppy start up disk ... yes, my 8.1 CD has disk images to make floppy start up for PPC and 68Ks.
Is this a stock 7100 using an 80 MHz 601 CPU ?
If its been upgraded w/ a G3 card in the PDS slot that may be the problem ... Remove the G3, disable its driver and try the install OS 8.1
How much hard disk space is available ?
