If you're pitting a Quadra 840AV VS a 60Mhz PowerMac 6100, both running System 7.5... I'd put money on the Quadra beating the 6100 at some things. But with Mac OS 8.1, the 6100 should be ahead since there's little 68k code left in the OS for a PPC to choke on. Of course 8.1 for the 040 is all 68k code, which the 040 is designed to tun. It'd be a tougher fight with the 840AV VS a 66Mhz 6100. That's an extra 6 million "ticks" a second, which at those speeds is quite a difference. (Plus the advantage of the faster speeds of the bus and many other parts.) Fer example, there were [EMAIL PROTECTED] teams in the first round running 60/66Mhz PowerMacs and 60/66Mhz original Pentiums. I dunno how much faster the 66Mhz 601 could process a unit, but I know that overclocking a 60Mhz Pentium to 66Mhz would finish a unit in 12% less time. That's going from just barely finishing a unit in the alloted time to finishing a unit with a comfortable margin. Same deal with the 601 chip. 60Mhz was just barely fast enough.
