I've pulled mine in the same fashion for hundreds of miles without  
incident. Other than the obvious things like take it easy on turns  
and don't back up - there isn't much I can add. It always went  
smoothly for me.

I would suggest you make a "local" trial run at highway speed,  
though. Although my car pulled the Bug with no problem, a friend's  
Ford Explorer overheated badly and wasn't as suited to the extra  
weight as we both thought it would be.

A trial run would ensure you are used to feel of towing with the bar,  
and that the car/truck you're towing with will do OK.
