Guys,

I had recently purchased a 1300 1967 vintage engine along with the
transmission. I got a good deal so bought the set to keep as a spare. While the
trans would come in handy soon it seems the engine has had a tragedy.

A car backed into it while it was lying on a shop floor where the engine
was temporarily stored. Theres a crack/break under the oil cooler which was
hit. Can see some oil seeping out. Is it at all possible to weld up/repair a VW
case? Local people tell me some shops specialise in special welds used for
alloys and such. Are these reliable?

The engine is a very nice clean unit which seems to have low miles and was
being kept as a bolt on unit ready to go into any one of my current or maybe
future cars. Breaks my heart to note the loss. Hope it can be mended rather
than junking the case and using all the good parts.

Input welcome
