Repair is possible, although as Gerald points out it
should only be attempted by someone with the proper
equipment/experience to weld magnesium alloys.
I had a case with similar damage once (the car it was
in was rear-ended and the cooler got hit) - just a
tiny crack under the cooler flange that went into the
"out" passage. I used it on a race engine that was
dry-sumped - since it didn't really NEED that passage,
I simply tapped down into the passage and installed a
pipe plug below the crack. You could do the same on a
wet-sump motor too, if you were to full-flow it and
use an external cooler with a thermostatic bypass
valve.
`67 ("H0") cases weren't bad in their day (a damn
sight better'n the `68/`69 "cottage-cheese-alloy") but
after 40 years' service odds are it's not REALLY worth
investing much money in - IMO a later,
large-passage-dual-relief case is a much better
foundation to start with.
