Other statements are correct so far as I know. 58 sucks unless they have
done significan work to it over the last several years.

My Delorme Map software says the "quickest" trip would be as you described
it at 690.xx miles looping south of Atlanta and getting over to 95 then up
to 58 and across.

I suspect it will be MUCH faster to loop NORTH of Atlanta and take 85 into
Richmond then 64 back south into Norfolk. If you just glance at a map that
route looks like it adds 100+ miles to your trip --- it doesn't, Delorme
says going that way is 715.xx miles, a whopping 25 extra miles on the trip
but you are on Interstate Highway level roads the whole way.
