Somethin's wrong with that air cleaner, I'd try a
different one...if anything the engine should run
BETTER with the aircleaner on than with it off.
If you go with an aftermarket unit, get one that
stands up a few inches above the carburetor (add an
extension pipe between them if necessary) to contain
the fuel standoff fog that exists over the carb on a
running VW motor.
