1. Although it's possible to bolt the early nosecone onto a late trans, and
people do it every day and get away with it, it's not a good idea. The
mainshaft bearing design is different, and the early nosecone can interfere
with the proper rotation & lubrication of the late bearing.
2,3. The `73-up mounts are far more compliant making them poorly-suited for any
kind of performance application. I might go to that much trouble to get away
from them, but never to convert TO them.

I put an AT trans in my daily-driver `69 years ago using an aftermarket
urethane adapter mount and have been pleased with the results. I was concerned
that it might transmit too much drivetrain noise into the chassis but that
proved to not be an issue. The fit of the metal sleeves into the urethane block
was a little loose for my liking (a wrap around the O.D. with metal-foil duct
tape fixed that). I also needed to relocate the ground strap since it won't fit
gracefully over the recessed hole in the urethane mount - it's now between one
of the sidecover nuts and one of the rear mount-to-bracket bolts.

BTW, be nice to Reverse. `74s have what is arguably the worst/weakest design
for the operating mechanism. Keep a light rearward pressure on the shiftlever
when backing - once they start to pop out the teeth wear badly and it's all
downhill from there. Excellent trans otherwise. Overall ratio in 1st/2nd/3rd is
6% taller than on your `69 trans, you may notice it's a little doggier on
takeoff esp. on an uphill standing-start. The lower 4th ratio compensates for
most of the R&P difference so it's only 1.2% taller (around 40 less RPM on the
highway).
