I think you are correct Bill.? The residue was oily.? Never thought about a 
seal leaking through the front of the trans into the tunnel!? Thanks

could be hockey stick seal at end of nosecone is letting transaxle fluid 
leak. check if it is trans fluid. then see if maybe steel gas line is 
leaking inside the tunnel.
