We are doing this conversion right now on a 1959 walk thru' panel bus. We
are using a 1967 german bus master with a rabbit master resivoir. You need
to buy 3 brake lines and use a T-fitting from the rear of any beetle.
www.sv2s.com I am vice president of Strictly Vintage 2s bus club in
SanDiego,ca.. if you are talking 59 beetle then you use a 1967 beetle master
with a rabbit master resivoir if german master or Volvo resivoir if
aftermarket resivoir.

Subject: [vintagvw] Brake main cylinder conversion from single to dual
system?

Dear Group:

My original single-system brake main cylinder on my '59 has failed in the
past, causing all four brakes to fail simultaneously.

I was wondering if a later-style dual-system brake main cylinder that
separates the brakes into separate front and rear brake systems, along with
separate reservoirs, could be simply bolted into my '59 (and my '63) without
any significant changes (i.e., welding, changing mounting hole/nut pattern,
etc).

I like the idea of only one of the brake systems failing, as opposed to all
brakes.

Thanks,

Thom
