I put a dual system in my '56 bug/'64 chassis and it bolted up to the chassis
no problem. I think it was a '67 master cylinder. I also ran all new
metal/rubber brake lines at the same time. It's not hard to do if you're
mechanically inclined. 8)

Subject: [vintagvw] Brake main cylinder conversion from single to dualsystem?

  Dear Group:

My original single-system brake main cylinder on my '59 has failed in the
past, causing all four brakes to fail simultaneously.

I was wondering if a later-style dual-system brake main cylinder that
separates the brakes into separate front and rear brake systems, along with
separate reservoirs, could be simply bolted into my '59 (and my '63) without
any significant changes (i.e., welding, changing mounting hole/nut pattern,
  etc).

I like the idea of only one of the brake systems failing, as opposed to all
  brakes.

  Thanks,

  Thom
