My stock 72 Bug with 1600DP and 34 Pict 3 has started dying at idle again. It
did this several months ago and as I had a tank of gas in the car that was
several months old; the only thing i could think of doing was that to
disassemble the carb and clean it; put fresh gas and see if that fixed it. It
thankfully did but over the past few days it started again. The gas in the
tank was put in in mid-Dec so I don't think it's gone bad. I went ahead last
night and filled the tank again but still dying at idle when driving it last
night on a 40 mile round trip.

This weekend I'll check for vacuum leaks and obvious stuff but I'm getting
pretty frustrated. The Bocar 34 Pict 3 carb was new in Dec. 2002 at 100,000 in
miles and the car only has 105,000 now so I don't think it's worn throttle
bushings or anything and I hate to think I've got a carb passage gunked up
already.

Up till last week it ran fine. We have had a lot of cold nites recently so i
wondered if i didn't get a lot of water condensing in the tank. That's why I
filled it up last nite to see if it was lee prone to die at idle.

I guess I should try some gas dry or some Techron and see if that helps. It
dies at idle even when fully warmed up.

Is another new carb in order or a different brand or model of carb? This
problem is taking the fun out of driving the vehicle if it won't idle.

I plan to check manifold boots and hoses as it almost feels like a vacuum leak
but could be carb as well.

Any ideas sure would be appreciated.
