Thanks.
Seems like I need that narrow beam after all. Good excuse to acquire
one!
I am not clear about the 1/4 spacer you are talking about. Where the
spacer be located at?

Thank you in advance,

Luis

Subject: Re: [vintagvw] Disk brake kit question (UNCLASSIFIED)

Luis,

I have the front/rear AC wide-five kits from So Cal and their kit for
the front looks pretty much the same as the EMPI. I have this installed
on my '65 with a RLR 2" narrowed beam. I am also running BRM's but with
a 175x65 tire. The only problem I ran into - and one I have seen with
other kits as well - is that the grease caps hit the center caps of the
wheels. What I ended up doing is to run a thin spacer - think its 1/4"
- so the cap would clear. I like my cars low in the front but with this
setup you can get more than a finger between the tire and the outer edge
of the fender.

One thing I don't like about the EMPI rear kit is the caliper bracket -
like the case/forged ones supplied by AC and CB better. Seems all kits
now a days use the same front/rear calipers so getting pads should not
be a problem.

I'm looking into acquiring disk brake kit like the ones on the above
links.
The intent is to install them on a 1963 bug with a lowered front end and
BRM wheels (with 145's) 1.How far will the front end kit will increase
the distance of the wheels from spindle? Or will I need a narrowed beam
in order to keep the tires under the fender?
2.Any pros or cons towards both of these kits.

Thank you in advance,
Luis
