I'm still here! I agree with an earlier post, I think the neatness of meeting
up with other v-dubbers on the internet sort of lost it's newness....Or perhaps
it's just not as cool and hip as Facebook? I started an aircooled VW club on
Yahoo 12 or so years ago,
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/aircooledvolkswagenclub/  it was once quite
active, now, not so much. All of these lists are still quite useful when you
need some help, there will always be a place for them to some extent I'm sire.

I think what happened to the list is that a lot of us got on with life and
then web forums, facebook, and twitter took over.  I still like this good
ol' listserv because so many people don't even know it exists...a lot like
USENET (until it got spammed to death) and the information gleaned from it
is priceless.  It's also like MIRC...kind of difficult to use but once you
figure it out, it's full of good stuff.  We aren't riddled full of spam and
a bunch of needless banter.

That being said, I'm in the process of getting a rebuilt set of DP heads and
intake manfold for Li'l Red.  After all these years, he's still on the
engine I put in him back in 1996 when I drove to Chicago to visit Jeremy
Vreeman.  For awhile, the bug would smoke when I'd start it up but ever
since switching to synthetic back in 2005, that completely stopped.  I drove
for many years without an odometer so I don't know quite where my mileage
stands but I remember it being said the original mileage interval for head
service was 30K miles.  I'd rather put on rebuilt heads and since I slipped
up and left my plugs in too long, I have a seized #3 plug.  ARGH!  Also, my
heat riser tube has been plugged for years and every time we get a cool,
damp day, it ices up and I have to keep pumping the throttle.

I'd sure love to get ahold of a Mexican fuel injection system.  I've seen
some mexi-beetles for sale in the states that I'd love to get ahold of so I
could reverse-engineer the system.  There are a couple guys on thesamba
selling pieces and parts but that does me absolutely no good.  You need it
all to make it work.  Anyone got any good leads?
