Volks,
I can't reminisce as far back as some of the listies -- I've only been "on"
since 2002, which I guess makes me a graying newbie -- but as I've posed
questions from time to time, you guys have been invaluable to me. Many of
the parts I've needed I've acquired through swaps arranged off-list, and
I've run across some of you at various shows.
My 1970 Police Bug project, while not really complete, has been really
rewarding. I've got some pictures of my faithful replica of a 1970 Mainz
police car posted on my FaceBook page in the Photo Album (it's open to
anybody). Today I have it parked in a prominent spot at Nashville's
Oktoberfest, up in the historic Germantown neighborhood, where it is
functioning, as one guy put it, as a "nose magnet." I'm on break from it
right now, but it's been surrounded constantly, and a subject or a backdrop
for hundreds of snapshots. We're having a beautiful sunny day here so it's
really nicely highlighted for photo ops. There are Volkswagen fanciers
everywhere we go, and every appearance elicits those "I usta have one of
these ..." stories or tales of their tours and travels in Germany.
Hope to be meeting some more of y'all come spring -- I'm going to try to
make it to some shows in the midwest and south, spouse permitting -- and to
Saint Louis in October 2011.
