When internet became readily available first as dialup and then high speed,
it opened up an opportunity that had never before been available and that
was of instant communication to and with a wide audience of others who
shared a same interest in the things that you did. You didn't have to write
letters and mail them nor make phone calls. It was all right there on your
desktop. I well remember large attachments accidentally making it to the
listserv and people complaining that it took an hour to download the emails
for the day which was a side effect of the slow dialup connections.

I still like the listserv for reasons I've mentioned before. It's personal,
it's super fast, and just by the sheer fact that others favour this super
simple and efficient means of communication, you're sure to have at least
that in common with anyone else who subscribes. The early days of internet
for widespread use were quite exciting and I'm sure many clubs and groups
were formed over the deal. Actually, some friendships were formed that I
will cherish forever. And of course, internet paved the way for me to find
my wonderful wife.

Not to get all sappy or nothin' but from the listservs I've been on, the
comraderie gained and the VWs are all an intricate part of my life that I'm
so thankful for. It's a welcome addition and though through repetition it
can be easily taken for granted, I try not to let such an important resource
fall into obscurity due to lack of appreciation for it. I'm a firm believer
that if I get back on here and post my VW trials and tribulations when I
can, the list will resurrect again...not to it's former glory mind you...but
to a nice relaxing fascimile that still brings the smiles and and feelings
of knowing what someone is talking about because you've been there too...
