My thoughts on the 1776 SP is for the simplicity, and robustness. I
believe that the SP's have fewer failure points (intake boots, DP intake
castings that warp) and the smaller carb is simpler to tune and
maintain. I'm currently running a 1600 DP, but with an adapter to run
the smaller carb, and it runs sweet. The only down side to changing the
factory specs on the engine, is you'll most likely need to run a mech
adv dizzy unless you know how to change vac/advance curves. The other
option is something like this,

For EFI, I've played around with Mega-Squirt EFI, and if you really want
to understand what EFI is and how it works, I highly recommend looking

modded it to use a crank trigger, and waste spark ign (no dizzy at all!)
