Hello,
I recently joined this Vintage VW List and would appreciate feedback on a
question.
3 months ago I bought a 1974 standard bug in very good condition, with a
1776 cc
engine that had only 6,500 miles on it. See basic specs below:
I asked the seller, a commercial aircraft mechanic by trade, some basic
engine service
and maintenance questions, as I also wanted to do all the routine stuff
myself. I asked
him what the timing was set at and he pulled out a strobe to prove that it
was at 20 degrees
BTDC. I just adjusted the valves and put in new plugs, compression check is
good.
The John Muir VW maintenance book does not really address a modified engine
like this,
regarding the timing. Do any of you on the list have a suggested timing
setting ?
Thanks,
D.B. Titus
