I'm guessing when it comes to ethanol resistant fuel line, one is going to have to spend some coin to buy some really good stuff. As a Stihl Chainsaw mechanic, one of the issues with the fuel lines that were German-made when they used to import saws before the new facility was built in Virginia, was that of the fuel lines seriously degrading to the point of leakage and inoperation. They had to redo the composition of the fuel lines. I think the originals were black and the replacements are green. They are a moulded line so of course it wouldn't work on the VWs, but it does point to the fact that there are ethanol resistant fuel lines out there somewhere.
I checked in the experimental aviation circles and found this: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/bingfuel.php There are 2 sizes listed in which the first one shows an ID of 1/4" which I think would work. The line is blue and goes for $1.48 a foot which is tolerable. After this most recent discussion of fuel lines, I think I'll order me some and switch my VWs over to it and see how it works. Aircraft Spruce and Specialty is a reputable business so if you go this route, please let us know how you find it to work for you.
