Hi Vintage VW list ! Been awhile ! As to 1600 in a stale air beetle - On the '61 & '63 Beetles putting in 1600-2276( with 1 5/8" Berg Heat exchangers) I just install them with the heat exchangers off, then put the exhaust system back on. If I had too choose 1 Beetle I'd pick stock too . Lloyd in Eureka, CA
