I'm currently without a VW but have enough parts to put a car together and then some. Just waiting for the space our new business should bring. I told my wife the enjoyment I had during the process of restoring it was almost more than the joy of owning it AFTER I had completed the restoration if that makes sense. I guess it is thee old saying about the journey being better than the destination. It was a fun car to restore especially since I had never restored an old car before...it wasn't overwhelming. You are right about Google at our fingertips and even youtube but those are so much more impersonal than the vintagvw list was. You came to know people on the list as friends even though I've never met one face to face and only talked to a couple on the phone. I just pray God's blessings on each one of you and your vehicles.
