Well, it seems to go to speaker phone on mine, just that I can't hear VO real well as it's almost a whisper when the call is in progress, plus at phone sample rate. I know nothing can be done about VO being phone quality instead of full quality, but why does it get so quiet when in a call? I don't remember the old Iphone before its volume went bad being quite that bad on this.

Hello,

You have two options.

1) Use a headset. If you have a headset plugged in to your iPhone, the touch-screen remains active so you can enter numbers.

2) Pull the iPhone away from your face so it switches to speakerphone. The iPhone has a proximity sensor just below the ear speaker slit. When something is close to the proximity sensor during a call, the touch-screen is deactivated to keep you from accidentally activating buttons with your face. When VO is running and you take the phone away from your face, the iPhone automatically switches to speakerphone and the touch-screen is activated. There is an occasional bug where VO doesn't release the touch-screen during a call. If this happens, block and unblock the proximity sensor a couple times and it should deactivate properly switching the iPhone to speakerphone.

i have searched the archives for a resolution to my query. Not having
found a satisfactory explanation, I am asking this again.

During a call with my iPhone 4S, how do I punch in numbers on the
phones touch screen?

Thank you and many blessings!
