Hi Jenine,

Unfortunately you will most likely discover that your bluetooth
headset will not work if you plug something into the headphone jack. I
didn't want to give you wrong information, so I just turned on
Bluetooth and then I turned on my Bluetooth headset. It took over as
usual and both VoiceOver and anything else (music, audio books etc.)
played on my bluetooth headset. I then plugged in my Apple wired
headset and any audio was immediately routed to it, it said in the
Bluetooth settings that my bluetooth headset was connected, but there
was no output. As soon as I unplugged the wired headset audio was back
on Bluetooth. Unless that card reader has some sort of headphone jack
on it so that you connect it to the headphone jack and then a headset
to it I think you will be out of luck.

I tried out one of those IR dongles last year which in connection with
an app turn your IOS device into a universal remote and here I found a
company which made a dongle that plugs into the 30-Pin connector,
others exist which also use the headphone jack. I am surprised there
are no credit card readers which use the 30-Pin connector.

Good luck,
Sieghard
