Sandy, The weather is only one aspect of the notification center. THe notification center can contain alerts from other apps such as text messages, Mail, apps that track the delivery of packages, and so much more. The notification center is anything but superfluous . Prior to the notification center you may have gotten an alert from an appointment on your calendar, a text message etc. and pretty much if you missed it you would have to go look at each app for any possible alerts. Notification center contains all that information in one place. You will get other points of view on this, but I think you will find notification center to be very valuable. Btw, I moved the weather app off the home screen, so honestly having this information quickly available is welcome.
