Yes, knowing where you are is harder with a touch interface, but when it
tells you completely wrong information, that is really awful.

I hope I am wrong about pages and folders in the future, but the guy doing
the presentation at WWDC was sure excited about having all your files sorted
recent first in one list in Pages.

Thanks for the conversation. It is helpful to have to articulate things
from time-to-time.

Later,
Richard

And Richard that is why I asked the question. Because the fact is there are
varying degrees of accessibility. I think no matter the application there
will be some effort to knowing exactly where you are when using a touch
interface. Is Pages perfect? Of course not and hopefully Apple will improve
it. As far as folders it is not completely clear yet where things will go
with that. I'm not so sure APple intends to kill the idea of having any
folders. I personally love folders and the entire idea of tree structures.

Hi Scott,
What is "reasonably efficient?"
to me, the fact that Pages does not accurately report your location in the
document with VoiceOver takes it out of the "reasonably efficient" category
and puts it squarely in the "very inefficient" category.

I don't expect much, but I do expect that if VoiceOver says I'm at the end
of the document, I would actually be at the end, not on page 2 out of 5, or
whatever.

I understand by using a keyboard and spending extra time moving by line or
word or even character I am more likely to get where I want to be, but that
puts us back into inefficient.

Besides, since Pages doesn't use folders, once you get very many documents
in the list, it becomes very unmanageable. After listening to the Keynote
address from this year's WWDC, that doesn't look like it is going to change
in IOS6.

I'll stick with plain text editors that allow me to organize files by
folders like PlainText, NoteMaster and Meteor Notes.

Again, this is for me, not for anyone else and I'm not saying anyone else
can't use Pages in a way that satisfies them. I simply don't think it is
worth $9.99.

Richard,

I'm not sure of your expectations, but I have used Pages, Numbers, and
Keynote on the iPad and to some degree on the iPhone, and find these apps
pretty accessible. Of course understanding the experience will be
considerably different using a touch interface as opposed to a non-touch
interface app. I think the greater challenge is keeping track of where you
are. Now I have not spent sufficient time with these apps to really be an
expert on how to address these issues, but I believe it is possible to work
in a reasonably efficient way. Hopefully others will chime-in with their
experiences.

Basically, you won't be able to do anything on your list with just
VoiceOver.

That is my opinion only,
Richard

Hi iPad, iPod and iPhone users
Could you please share your views on how accessible are the office programs
in iOS?
How do you rate the depth of accessibility in office application with regard
to some of these below features? ( completely inaccessible, somewhat
accessible or fully accessible)
(Please keep in mind that These are just a few items I'm looking at, but
feel free to bring in your views on any other relevant ones that you feel
worth mentioning here.)
. Text attribute - font, colour, borders, shading, background,
superscript, subscript, and so on.
. Page layout - headers, footers, cover page templet, page breaks,
page numbers and so on.
. Text layout - paragraph, bullets, numbers, line spacing, tables
and so on.
. Objects - diagrams, charts, pictures, clip arts, symbols and so
on.
. Keynote - editing slides, slideshows, object positioning,
animation and so on.
. Calculation - formulas, fill series, cross reference of cells,
generating pivot tables, pivot charts and so on.
. Selection - selecting tables, selecting pages, worksheets, cells,
slides, objects and so on.
That's all I can think of now, let me know if something covertly or
otherwise directly flashes in your mind
Thanks
Syed
