Are there any advantages using imap over pop3?

No it won't. You will have to either enable imap on your account or set
Gmail up manually.

I have a question in this regard along the same line. I currently have my
Gmail account setup for pop3. If I use the default settings for the mail

Desperate to have emails deleted from phone and gmail and computer at the
same time. When I changed my email address I was given instruction which
put me into an exchange. I hated it and figured out how to change to
POP3. How do I change to IMAP if it will delete email from the server from
iPhone? Need details. Thanks a bunch!
