OK, fare enough, but you seemed to be making a blanket statement and even admitted that you hadn't moved from IOS 7 to IOS 8 on an iPhone 5 yourself. I've seen people talk about a performance hit on the 4S, and I've mentioned this myself, but I haven't really seen anyone talking about a step backwards in performance on an iPhone 5. I agree every post and opinion doesn't need a long list of caveats, but I do think blanket statements not based on actual experience do need to be put into perspective.

Hi,

There's no reason why a new OS *has* to be slower no, but anyone who
has used two operating systems on an iDevice that isn't the latest and
greatest will tell you that performance has decreased. Had the OP been
talking about going from 8.0 to 8.1.3 for arguments sake then my
response would have been different, but he's asking about going from
7.1.2 to 8.1.3. I appreciate that you may have just been posting for
the sake of completeness, but IMHO some posts (not just ones on this
list) don't need a huge list of caveats at the end of them.

Cheers,
Ben.

There's no reason a newer operating system has to be slower. In fact,
performance improvements are often included in releases of newer
software. Dot releases of both IOS 7 and IOS 8 have included performance
improvements.

Hi,

It's going to be slower because it's a newer operating system. I
haven't used 7 on a 5 so can't really compare, but I have used one
running 8 and to me it's still usable.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hello, everyone.

I have a 16GB iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2 with about 6.8 GB free, and
I'm on the edge of upgrading it to the latest iOS 8 version. The only
concern holding me back is worry about sluggish response. If I
upgrade, will commands be executed more slowly? I keep only one or
two apps open at a time, so I believe in giving the phone an even
break. <smile>

Thank you for all help.
