I like Red Laser the most, but Digit Eyes will do the job as well. I have found 
that Red Laser scans more easily, but that's just me.

Remember that iPhones are not bar code scanners. I know it sounds obvious, but 
it really does matter; scanners use lasers and other special components to pick 
up on bar codes, making them far easier to use for this task. Phones are 
running real-time video processing as they look to see if a code is anywhere in 
the camera's view, and are thus less  apt to pick up a code with the ease of a 
dedicated scanner. They can do it, but it may take more time and patience than 
you're used to now. I'd get some items together, the locations of whose codes 
you already know, and practice. Once you get the feel for it, it gets easier, 
but it will not be as smooth as the USB scanner, I imagine.
