I agree with you Richard about Digit-Eyes being the go to app. I just want to add that the camera on any iPhone is linear. Hence, it takes lots of practice finding those barcodes. I don't know which USB barcode scanner you are using, but it's probably an Omni directional type. Therefore, capturing the barcode is easier to find then on the phone's camera. I've been using Digit-Eyes since it came out and I still have problems from time to time capturing the barcodes. I'm using an iPhone 6 with 8.3. My extensive use of the app is creating my own barcode labels for my work files and important docs. HTH.
