Mary, one way that I found to make the Amazon app play nicely when scrolling is to put VoiceOver focus on to something, then wait a few seconds while whatever product page you've just double-tapped on finishes loading completely. There aren't any clicks, like you would get in Safari, but just wait between three and five seconds, and everything should be fine. After you've found something on the screen to focus on, do your normal three-finger swipe up, and the pages should start scrolling fine. Hope this helps.
