Works like a modified version of Dropbox, for the usb/lightening device. I used to use Phonedrive and something like it which was an app that packed all the files into it's own data space. Ubidisk was the other, can't remember how I got the data into it though. But both allowed you to interact and use the files, and avoided using iTunes to load to it.
Like I said, there were some cheaper devices hoping to piggyback onto other producers apps, this is now closed. And I still can't find the one I had. You can put anything you want on them, music, movies, pictures, documents etc. The issue is that for the most part you are limited to using this data inside whatever app you have to install to access the drive, e.g. if you put a bunch of songs onto one of these USB drives, it is not accessible by the music app. Think of it like the Dropbox app except that instead of having the files in the cloud they are on a little USB drive connected to your phone. Personally I don't find any use for them, they are quite expensive compared to a regular USB drive of the same capacity and you are better off spending that money and get the largest iPhone you can next time you buy a new one.
