The three finger double tap seems to work.

Well, despite all my efforts to use one or two fingers as appropriate; a lapse of attention means a third finger touches without my realising, and also wonder why speech goes off. So worth doing the 3finger double tap to see if it comes back on. I also tend to try a 2finger flick up to get voiceover talking if it's doing it at all, then crank up the volume in the hopes that it was only
minimised.

After that, I'm not sure what to suggest.

Here's something I don't understand. I have "Voice Over" on on my iPad Air
but somehow I managed to turn speech off.. how can that be? I tried ussing
Siri to turn it back on but it said it is already on. Yet unless I am
still in Siri, I can't get anything to read. What setting did I manage to
screw up?

I am going to have lots of elementary questions like this to ask.. be
ready. <smile>
