Hi richard. As Andrew suggested, try slowing down the alert display duration, assuming you are using iOS 9. Also, if you are finding that the messages aren't flashing up on your display at all, press space with M to turn speech on, and then space with M again to turn it off. I'm not sure exactly why this makes a difference, but sometimes it does.
